An alleyway in the medieval Old Town of Rhodes
Palace of the Grand Masters, the jewel of Old Town Rhodes
The
Old Town architecture reflects its Turkish, Byzantine and Venetian heritage. A
mosque, a Turkish bath, Christian churches and the Palace are examples of
Rhodes' diverse influences. Our pension was nestled in a stone alleyway among
these.
One
of the many artisans in Rhodes. We saw this woman weaving a rug each day as we
passed the carpet shop. Maybe she will finish it by the next season!
The
acropolis of Lindos, a seaside city south of Rhodes, is atop a rock overlooking
the Mediterranean Sea. This acropolis was established around 2000 BC and
includes both a Temple to Athena and a Byzantine church (as shown in the photo).
Quite a contrast!
