Rhodes Photos

An alleyway in the medieval Old Town of Rhodes

Palace of the Grand Masters, the jewel of Old Town Rhodes

The Old Town architecture reflects its Turkish, Byzantine and Venetian heritage. A mosque, a Turkish bath, Christian churches and the Palace are examples of Rhodes' diverse influences. Our pension was nestled in a stone alleyway among these.

One of the many artisans in Rhodes. We saw this woman weaving a rug each day as we passed the carpet shop. Maybe she will finish it by the next season!

The acropolis of Lindos, a seaside city south of Rhodes, is atop a rock overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. This acropolis was established around 2000 BC and includes both a Temple to Athena and a Byzantine church (as shown in the photo). Quite a contrast!
