Jaipur is the capital of Rajasthan. Rajasthan is
the home of the Rajputs, a group of warrior clans who ruled this part of India
for 1000 years. In 1876 Maharaja Ram Singh had Jaipur painted pink to
welcome the Prince of Wales, resulting in Jaipur earning the nickname "The Pink
City".
Hawa
Mahal - built during 1799 to enable ladies of the royal household watch the
hustle of the city.
Camel
carts, auto rickshaws, bicycle rickshaws, buses, cars, and pedestrians jockey
for position on Jaipur's streets.
Amber
lies 11 km north of Jaipur and was once the capital of the Jaipur state.
Construction of this fort palace began in 1592. This fort exemplifies the
opulent lifestyle of the Rajputs with its magnificent architecture, latticed
galleries, mosaics, sculptures, etc.
Women
in their brightly colored and embroidered clothing at the Hall of Victory at Amber. This hall
has thousands of inlaid panels and a glittering mirror ceiling.
Proprietors outside of Amber, India; the
swastika represents good luck to Buddhists and Hindus.
