Hue Photos
Hue is a city about midway up the coast of Vietnam; it was the
capital from which the Nguyen emperors ruled until 1945.

Hammer and sickle - an ever present reminder that Vietnam is a
communist country.
The
Citadel is surrounded by stone walls and moats; the Citadel was used for
the emperor's official functions. Extensive renovations are underway
to restore damage from neglect and war.
Along
the Perfume River (between 2 to 12 km from Hue) lie the tombs of Vietnam's
emperors. Each tomb is an extravagant compound consisting of a temple,
courtyard, pond, pavilion, and sepulcher (grave).
Shown is the Tomb of Tu Duc. Of interest, Tu Duc's
remains aren't actually in the tomb. Fearing grave robbers, his
remains (and treasures) were hidden. The 200 slaves that carried out the
burial were beheaded.
Tomb
of Minh Mang. Architecturally this one is outstanding. The buildings
are beautifully interwoven into the surrounding trees and countryside.
