China Learning Resources

This page contains lists of websites you can use to learn more about China, adopting from China and adoption in general.  Click the link at the top of this page to learn about the many books available on these subjects.

Chinese Adoption Websites:

www.lucky-charm.org This is a website made by and for March 2003 DTC families.  However, much of the info and links are useful for anybody interested in learning more about adopting from China.

www.fwcc.org An international organization of Families With Children From China.  We have joined the local group and found so many local families have adopted from China.  This organization often hosts Chinese festivals, provides information about cultural camps and Chinese schools and is a great way to meet others.

www.chinaadoptionstories.com If you are thinking about adopting from China, check out this site!  It has links to tons of personal China adoption journeys (including ours) and they are full of wonderful stories.

www.chinesechildren.org CCAI, is a fantastic non-profit adoption agency started by Lily and Josh, a Chinese couple who emigrated to the U.S.  Since 1992 they have placed over 3000 Chinese children in families all over the world!  Additionally they do great charity works in China, opening their own model orphanages. We are happy to be working with them!

www.alciva.org A Loving Choice International of Virginia.  Because CCAI is based in Colorado, we needed to find a social worker in Virginia to conduct our home study.  We contacted Barbara Slaton of Forever Families, and she is terrific!  She used to work for CCAI before moving to Virginia and is a great person.

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/a-parents-china An online group with over 10,000 members who have either adopted or our adopting from China.  Over 100 messages a day on subjects ranging from packing lists for China, current Chinese news, and referral news.

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/March2003DTC/ This online group is for families with March 2003 DTCs.

International Adoption Websites

www.calib.com/naic/  The National Information Adoption Clearinghouse is a comprehensive resource on all aspects of adoption, from what questions to ask when choosing an agency to recommended books for adopted children to read.

www.orphandoctor.com A good site to learn about special issues of internationally adopted children, such as what medical tests you child should have when he/she comes to the U.S., information about potential developmental and medical delays resulting from staying in orphanages.

China Learning Websites

www.chinasprout.com  A great site for adults and children.  Provides information on Chinese holidays, Chinese legends and stories.  Contains messages boards for parents, both adoptive and biological, of Chinese descent children.  Additionally has an online shop for Chinese related products such as ornaments, jewelry, silk screens.

www.chinaconnectiononline.com  An website with links to cultural information about China, Chinese adoption issues and current Chinese events affecting adoptions.

www.magma.ca/~mtooker/cities/ A great site for Chinese adopted children and their parents to learn more about their Chinese hometowns and birth cities.

http://english.peopledaily.com.cn  Provides an overview of Chinese history, culture and its economy, plus current events.  You can sign up for a daily news email.
