2009 Chongqing Journal

Grace making her sister smile.
Chongqing is the most populous city in China with 30 million
population in the city and its entire municipality. Our hotel is in an area surrounded by tall buildings, shops and restaurants. The park in front of it is nice for running around. There is a major light and fountain show there every night! We see it from the 30th floor of our hotel, where our rooms are. Grace continues to love having her own room while the three of us are in the attached one! : ) It is a very nice
hotel with good amenitites.
For sights we have been to the Chongqing Zoo. It was actually a quite peaceful and lovely zoo--lots of garden areas. The pandas were fabulous--we all loved them! Hope slept through a good part of it.
The next day we went to Old Town--really neat. Alleys of stone walkways and traditional wood Chinese shops selling food,
Chinese medicines, clothes, and all sorts of stuff. Fun to watch them making it. As usual we get lots of stares as there are not many Westerners in this part of China! And they all love to come and see Hope and Grace. The Chinese really love children despite the government child limitation rules. Last night we all went to a group Chinese meal--Anita brought a birthday cake for all the new girls and had the big girls blow out the
candles
The next day we visited the People's Hall. A gorgeous building
built in the 1950s for conferences but now used for theatre. Grace was excited
that in May Hello Kitty Live will be there. After that we walked to the very
modern and lovely Three Gorges Museum about the famous Three Gorges Dam (and
relics from the areas flooded out when it was built!) and Chongqing.
Hope has been thriving. She shows more emotion now--Grace can
even get her to laugh! She can roll over and hold her head up for much longer
periods. She eats her formula well although takes no solids. She now has five
teeth!
Grace is terrific with Hope and is a great big sister. She
continues to love learning more about China. She also very much loves Anita, our
Chinese host. She has exhibited some jealousy in her pushback with us, but
that's no surprise. Overall she is doing great--a good traveler.
