2009 China Preparation
Admittedly, with the second child we haven't
prepared quite as much as last time! We did lots of reading about babies last
time...not quite so much this time! It will all come back to us....right?
We have had fun decorating the nursery, getting a package to Hope, talking to Grace about China,
bringing Grace's toys down from the attic and, as always, reading more to learn
about China. For information about preparing for China adoption and getting a
baby in general, check out our preparation from 2004.
On this page see some of our preparation--her nursery and more.

1. The first major preparation for the trip
was to send Hope a care package. We placed a camera, questions for the nanny,
pjs, socks, stuffed animal, and a photo album for Hope plus crayons and coloring
books for the older children.

2. Buy baby stuff and finish up the room!
3. We got our packing list together and
shopped. Our plan is to take two suitcases and one carry-on each. In the
suitcases will be about 5 outfits each, bathing suits each, workout outfits
(hopefully can use them), medical kit, toiletries, Baby Bjorn, some diapers,
wipes and formula, and a few baby toys and blankets. Carry on includes Grace's
entertainment, our electronics (computer, camcorder, camera), paperwork, some
books, and travel baby gear.
4.We needed to do more paperwork--notarizations for CCAI and
Visa applications. Also, getting money orders for the orphanage and such.
5. Travel plans--CCAI will schedule in China
travel for us but I (Lea) got our tickets to/from China after much research. The
tickets were $800 roundtrip per adult, pretty reasonable for that distance. I
also arranged our stay in Beijing. Rather than stay with the group we decided to
go back to the Grand Hyatt because we loved it before and you can walk
everywhere from it.
6.
Go out! We have great sitters but who knows how Hope will react at first. So we
are enjoying a lot of evenings out right now. The picture is from the ForKids
art auction.
